Cloud computing
Computing services delivered over the internet: servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics and intelligence. The point is faster change, flexible capacity and a cost that follows use, rather than a room of equipment bought for a peak that may not last.
An entirely cloud-based environment can be reached from anywhere, on any number of devices, with a single sign-in. That is how a London team and people working away from the office stay on the same systems.
IT security
Security stops unauthorised parties from reaching or manipulating data and systems. People and technology inside the organisation, and the information they hold, are protected against damage and threats.
The practical aim is straightforward. Computers, networks and data stay out of the wrong hands, and access is limited to the people who are supposed to have it.
Backup and recovery
A backup is a copy of the operating system, the files and the data the system depends on. It is there when the primary copy is corrupted, deleted or lost, so the business is not starting from an empty desk.
Real-time backups keep that copy close to the working day. Disaster recovery is the wider plan: if a system fails, there is a path back to service, not only a folder of old files.
Scalable technology
Hardware and software that continue to function well when size or volume changes to meet a user need. A busier month should not become a less reliable month.
Applications and infrastructure are chosen so a change in workload does not force a rebuild. Capacity can grow with the organisation and still be watched for security and performance.
